Vintage Villeroy & Boch 25 pc Mettlach dinner service ivory ironstone, gold leaf floral / foliate design, 10 place setting + serving dishes

A lovely vintage 1950s Villeroy and Boch dinner service with gold leaf floral and foliate designs on an ivory white ground. 10 place setting of dinner and formal soup plates, plus a set of matching serving dishes for a beautiful table setting. Made in earthenware during the time of the protectorate of France c1945-55, and bearing the rare Mettlach Made in France Economic Union Mercury mark.

This lovely ironstone dinner service features beautiful gold gilt stylised floral patterns and an elegant timeless design. Made in earthenware with a creamy white paste with gold leaf embellishments. A perfect vintage set in ivory white in good condition for continued use.

This very sweet stylised floral pattern in gold on ivory white ground a scattering of small flowers around the plate rims and over the body of the serve ware pieces. Every piece in this set features subtle scalloped borders and molded edge rims in a lovely creamy white. Hand applied gold handle details and border work on the formed pieces shows the excellent workmanship to be expected from famous Mettlach factory of Villeroy and Boch.

This set has swags of cottage style charm. An absolutely classic design for a farmhouse kitchen, but its neutral palette means it will work beautifully any vintage décor. Easy to own and use, this set is compatible with most decor and table styles. Enough plates to serve a significant dinner party or multiple courses for smaller gatherings; accompanied by classically French matching set of serve ware. Excellent color retaining a soft ivory base without any significant discoloration and every piece is in usable condition.

10 flat plates
10 soup plates
1 x soup tureen with its lid
1 x gravy boat
1 x small oval 'ravier' platter
1 x deep dish serving bowl
1 x large round platter

Dimensions and condition as follows:

PLEASE NOTE: Unless otherwise stated, all pieces are in good antique condition with no cracks, chips or major staining and glazes in good condition. Please note that some noticeable wear the gold on inner and outer rims is present on most pieces. They may also show some minor crazing, light signs of use such as scratches and very minor discoloration in places.

- 10 flat plates - 24cm diameter x 3.8cm high - All plates very good condition as above, with no cracks or chips.
- 10 soup plates - 23.5cm diameter x 4.5cm high - All plates very good condition as above, with no cracks or chips.
- 1 x soup tureen with its lid - 21cm high (including lid - 11cm high without lid, excluding handles) x 21 cm diameter at rim and 24cm widest point of bowl. Width including handles is 29.5cm. Presents well but with damage - a large chip to the foot rim, plus and a small hairline crack under the lid finial. Still usable and body is solid, glazes in good condition.
- 1 x gravy boat - 19cm long (including handle and spout) x 9cm high x 9.5cm wide
- 1 x small oval platter - 22.7cm x 15.2cm x 3.2cm - significant wear to teh godl decoration on this piece and some staining. Included free with the set because of condition. Still able to be used, and an ideal size to use for the sauce boat charger platter.
- 1 x large round round platter - 28.2cm x 3.5cm - good condition but with a few greyish spots on the outer rims. Still usable and attractive.
- 1 x deep dish serving bowl - 28cm diameter x 5.5cm high - good condition but with 2 small rust coloured spots inside the bowl. Still usable and attractive.

Damaged areas are not shown due to space constraints. Unless noted in the description above, all pieces are in very good antique condition. I do have many more images available so please message me if you would like to see them.

Overall, this set remains in good condition despite its age of 70+ years. Because this is a functional item, you may expect to see signs of use including light scratches, a few small areas of glaze loss, a few small areas of discoloration, etc. Also, it is manufactured to different standards than today and you may see areas of glaze smudging, glaze spots, bubbles under the glaze which are part of the vintage charm of these items. This quality set remains very usable and will display well for years to come.
