An elegant hand carved alabaster horse head sculptural bookend. Probably made in Italy for the French market, this horse bust is an artistic sculpture that also works as a functional object.
The alabaster horse bust has been mounted on to a marble base in a cream and grey colourway which sets off the buttery yellow alabaster stone.
This charming piece would be a lovely addition to a variety of interior décor styles with a classic, antique or eclectic theme. Perfect for arranging a stack of books on a shelf with one closed end, as a paperweight desk accessory, or as a standalone sculpture.
15cm high including base x 10cm deep (front of horse's nose to back on base) x 6cm across (one side of the base to the other).
Condition is good. A small area of minor damage to the very tip of the right ear and a few very small scrapes / flea bite chips. Nothing to detract from the overall enjoyment of the piece - see photos for condition. No cracks or large chips, good colour depth. The sculpture is undated but appears to be 20th century due to the style and patina of wear. I can't make any warranty as to the accuracy of the date, other than that the piece is probably vintage around mid 20th century.
This is a lovely tactile piece, beautiful to touch and hold, as well as being a useful item for organising your bookshelf!
