A set of 2 charmingly shabby antique ironstone faience earthenware small dinner plates in blue transferware. Featuring an aged ivory ground, with highly detailed transfer printed design of vignettes of birds. Lovely pieces of very romantic antique faience ware by renowned makers Digoin Sarreguemines, showing all the signs of their great age.
Priced and sold as a SET of 2 plates.
The late 1800s was an exciting time in design in Europe, and this design 'Favori' unapologetically embraces the romance of the country cottage idyll that was so important in the Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic movement. This divergent design is slightly different on each plate, but all feature a spring scene with birds on blossoming branches. The gorgeous transferware is set off beautifully by the cream-colored ground to create the inimitable look of an authentic antique.
23.5cm diameter x 3cm high.
Condition is satisfactory / shabby antique condition - still suitable for display if you will accept some visible faults as follows:
Plate 1 has a large chip to the rim plus a hairline crack, non-penetrating but discolored.
Plate 2 has a long hairline crack from the rim to its centre, it is penetrating and has movement and discoloration
See photos for damage and other photos for general condition. Lovely patina with a consistent aging to an ivory colour, as a very light 'tea stain' effect.
Ideal for the plate rack or as wall plates, these are stunning piece of romantic French antique design to display and enjoy!
Please feel free to ask any questions :)
