A set of 8 very elegant French antique soup plates in blue transferware from the renowned faiencerie of Creil et Montereau, France. Classic French antique style in a gorgeous Empire style transfer print, with stylised floral sprays in a formal repeating pattern. A lovely example of French transferware of the late 19th / early 20thC, made in high quality earthenware around c1900. In lovely condition, still suitable for use and gorgeous on display.
Priced and sold as a SET of 8 plates.
These lovely plates are classic pieces of French design, from the Parisian Belle Epoque - perfect French Country style. A stunning floral design in a rich navy blue for a classic addition to any decor.
All pieces are in very good antique condition, a bright white glaze with a lovely sheen and rich navy blue color to the transferware, a little discoloration here and there and light crazing. One plate has a tight 1cm hairline crack to the rim (non-penetrating), another has a 1cm firing fault. Otherwise, only a few small signs use such as light scratches / scrapes to be expected for age of 110 years. As with any transferware item, you may see small areas of transfer smudging, small pattern gaps and spots - these are part of the vintage charm of the item, arising from the more hand-made processes of the time, and should not be regarded as faults
