A fabulous set of 7 beautifully detailed and rare antique French ironstone (faience) transferware large round plates, from Gien, France. Featuring a delicately aged cream ground, with deep blue transfer printed design with a lovely armorial style cartouche in the center. A substantial set of quintessentially French antique faience ware, perfect for a French country, farmhouse or vintage décor.
Priced and sold as a set of 7 pieces (Set of 6 + 1 free).
These stunning generously proportioned antique plates are made in petrol blue transferware on an ivory ground in a gorgeous dense floral pattern from Gien, France. Sized as serving dinner plates, but with a slightly deeper dish than normal, these pieces features a very beautiful transfer printed armorial and floral motif and extremely sweet tone-on-tone chintz-style floral border detail in deep navy blue glaze. Subtle fluted design with a twisted rib pattern and lightly scalloped border finish these beautiful pieces.
In very good antique condition with no chips or cracks. Signs of use including scratches, tiny flea bite glazes losses, and light all-over crazing, pleasingly aged cream-coloured ground. Some age related stains on the reverse of the plates, display faces remain in very good condition apart from one piece that has a few small stains (although still usable, this piece is included free with the set). See photos for condition. There are no chips or cracks whatsoever.
27cm diameter x 3.5cm high
The back stamp bears the triangular impressed mark for 'Terre de fer de Gien' and the stamped Gien armorial stamp in use from 1875.
Lovely large pieces for display or use, in beautiful condition to give as a gift.
