A gorgeous set of 6 French antique ironstone ('terre de fer') soup plates in green and white transferware in a rare antique pattern, 'Nenuphar' by renowned faiencerie Salins, France c 1890-1910.
These lovely plates are classic pieces of French design, from the Parisian Belle Epoque - perfect French Country style. A stunning floral design in a soft forest green. Impressed with maker name 'Salins' on the base, along with the stamped pattern name 'Nenuphar' and transferware maker's mark.
The late 1800s was an exciting time in design in Europe, and this design unapologetically embraces the romance of the country cottage idyll that was so important in the Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic movement and emerging Art Nouveau movement. The waterlilies in this transferware pattern feature the subtle 'Coup de Fouet' or 'Whiplash' motif that came to define Art Nouveau. The gorgeous green transferware is set off beautifully by the cream-colored ground to create the inimitable look of an authentic antique.
Priced and sold as a SET of 6 plates all in very good antique condition.

CONDITION - the set includes 5 pieces in excellent antique condition. No chips or cracks, and virtually no discoloration, in superb condition for display or use. One plate in satisfactory condition with a fine hairline crack to the rim. The crack is penetrating but without movement.
Absolutely beautiful plates to use, appreciate and enjoy. A sweet way to add French vintage style to your home!
