Classic French antique style in a gorgeous floral transfer print, with stylised floral sprays. This pattern is a lovely example of French transferware of the Art Nouveau period, made in high quality earthenware c1910-1920. A few marks of time, but suitable for use and lovely on display.

Priced and sold in sets, one set of 4 and one set of 6. Select your set at checkout.

Please note that shipping for both sets (total 10 plates) at once can be combined, and one set of shipping costs refunded!

These lovely plates are classic pieces of French design, from the Parisian Belle Epoque - perfect French Country style. A stunning floral design in a soft grey blue. Impressed with production numbers on the base, along with the stamped pattern name 'Royat' as part of the maker's mark.

The design is intricate yet remains open and airy, with only a light border pattern and the naturalistic vining pattern of the flowers. The pattern is primarily a rendering of Columbine flowers, which to the Victorians were symbolic of romantic love, due to the revival of classical associations with Aphrodite, as well as being symbols of piety and the suffering of the Virgin Mary (from the Renaissance period). The design features lovely shading in the leaves of the flower petals, and slightly stylised stalks and leaves, typical of the sinuous forms of the Art Nouveau period.

Condition varies between plates and sets please read carefully.

SET OF 4
- 3 plates in very good antique condition with no marks or damage.
- 1 plate in good condition but with a few small marks - a tiny firing fault in the bowl; a very small shallow glaze scrape (approx 1mm wide x 3mm long) to the top surface of the outer rim and a small shallow chip to the underside (about 4mm diameter). Nothing to prevent use or display.

SET OF 6
- 3 plates in very good antique condition with no marks or damage.
- 1 plate with a small shallow chip to the rim of 6mm diameter to the top surface of the outer rim;
- 1 plate with a 15mm diameter chip to the rim underside, not very visible from the serving surface
- 1 plate with a small chip on the outer rim surface.
None of these imperfections will affect the usability or display potential of the plates.

All pieces in both sets show a lovely creamy ivory color, no patchy discoloration of the glaze, overall crazing of the glaze and signs of use such as light scratches / scrapes to be expected for age of 110 years. These plates remain suitable for serving, and lovely on display so will be perfect for the plate rack or for use, as desired.

24cm diameter x 4.5cm high

Absolutely beautiful plates to appreciate and enjoy. A sweet way to add French vintage style to your home!
