A set of 3 charming antique ironstone faience earthenware dessert / entree / breakfast plates in blue transferware. Featuring a lightly aged ivory ground, with sweet transfer printed design of vignettes of summer wildflowers and butterflies. Each plate carries a unique transferware design and all bear some marks of time. Lovely pieces of very romantic antique faience ware by renowned makers Digoin Sarreguemines.
Priced and sold as a SET of 3 plates.
The late 1800s was an exciting time in design in Europe, and this design 'Tsarine' unapologetically embraces the romance of the country cottage idyll that was so important in the Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic movement. This divergent design is different on each plate, all feature summer vignettes with butterflies fluttering around wildflowers. The gorgeous blue transferware is set off beautifully by the cream-colored ground to create the inimitable look of an authentic antique.
20.5cm diameter x 2cm high.
Overall in satisfactory antique condition, 1 plate has a non-penetrating hairline crack on the back face, 1 with 3 very small chips to the back rim and 1 with hairline and large chips, all to the rear rim, the hairline is visible from the front. Otherwise no significant discoloration, glazes remain in good condition. You will see signs of light use and wear such as minor crazing, tiny 'fleabite' chips glaze losses to the rim, scrapes, scratches and spots of discoloration and other small defects, all to be expected for an age over 100 years. Please see photos for information and ask if you would like to see further detailed images. Still in good usable condition and displays very nicely.
