SET of 2 Antique Sarreguemines French cup and saucer duos, hand painted polychrome / brown transferware, Japonisme 19thC French faience

A gorgeous pair of small French demitasse coffee / tea cups in in a dainty fluted design, with sculpted handles in a hand-colored design over a base of brown transferware. In an earth-toned polychrome colourway with brick red border on an ivory white ground, these pieces feature a lovely 'Japonisme' design, influenced by the iconography of sought-after Japanese ceramics in the late 19th century.

From renowned the renowned faiencerie of U&C (Utzschneider & Cie) Sarreguemines, France and bearing a mark in use from 1875-1895 these are lovely examples of antique French faience, ready for display or use in your home.

Priced and sold as a PAIR - the set of 2 cups with their 2 matching saucers.

(Please note that an additional set of 2 is available at the time of listing (so 4 cups in total) in the same condition. (Another pair in inferior condition, with cracks and small chips, are also available - please enquire).

Each cup in this pair is a small French standard 'tasse' tea / coffee / espresso cup (the standard French 'tasse a cafe' is 120mls, which is on the small side for a modern cup) and features a beautiful sculpted fluting detail, sweet delicate handle and a classic Victorian design. The exquisite and intricate design is applied with a base of brown transferware which was then hand coloured with polychrome embellishments in red, green, orange and pink. Some beautiful artistic flourishes and lots of detail to enjoy. Finished with hand painted border and sculpted handle details, on a gently aged ivory background. These pieces would be right at home in a vintage-style kitchen, a Victorian-influenced dining room, or with any vintage décor.

This set is in good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or major discoloration. Some tiny 'flea bite' glaze losses from the rims, age-appropriate crazing inside the cups and minor discoloration / tea staining on the inside of some cups. Overall light signs of wear and use, with nothing to detract from appearance on display or continued usability.
