Set of 6 beautiful French antique soup plates in petrol blue transferware, with floral pattern of carnation flowers ('oeillets') c1890-1910. In the 'Bouquets d'Oeillets' pattern, a beautiful example of Aesthetic Movement faience by renowned faience house U&C (Utzschneider & Co) Sarreguemines, France.

Priced and sold as the SET of 6 pieces.

These beautifully detailed and rare antique French ironstone (faience) transferware soup plates date from the late Aesthetic Movement c1880-1900 prior to the emergence of Art Nouveau. Featuring a crisp white ground, with highly detailed transfer printed designs of naturalistic carnation flowers and a pretty border pattern. Lovely pieces of very romantic (and quintessentially French) antique faience ware.

The late 1800s was an exciting time in design in Europe, and these pieces unapologetically embrace the romance of the country cottage idyll that was so important in the Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic Movement. This design "Flore" by U&C Sarreguemines, features very detailed and subtly shaded florals, transfer printed with beautiful clarity in a light blue grey against the white ground. Just gorgeous!

Each plate is 23cm diameter x 4cm high.

In 'satisfactory' to 'good' antique condition - no cracks, 2 plates have a chip to the rim - one (approx 8mm diameter) on the face of the outer rim, and the other (approx 9mm diam) on the underside, not visible from the serving surface. All pieces show signs of wear at the base of the bowl, some discoloration / glaze loss consistent with use over their long life. All remain usable and attractive. Please see photos and feel free to ask any questions. The price reflects the condition.

All marked with a stamp for U&C (Utzschneider & Co) Sarreguemines, France with a mark in use around 1880-1900.

A rarely-found pattern of romantic French country antique design - to use, display and treasure! Please feel free to ask any questions :)
