Beautiful set of 3 antique French dinner plates, c1880-1890. A lovely design featuring bees visiting flowers in a gorgeous countryside scene. From the period of the Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic Movement, this example is stamped for the famous Bordeaux retailers Depot General VR Lafitte with a mark in use from around 1875). This pattern is called 'Vigne Vierge' (the French for 'Virgina Creeper') and was made by the famous faienceries de Gien.
Priced and sold as a SET of 3 pieces.
Beautifully detailed and rare antique French ironstone (faience) transferware dinner plates featuring a delicately aged white ground, with highly detailed transfer printed design of vignettes of insects, trees and blossom. A lovely piece of very romantic (and quintessentially French) antique faience ware. The late 1800s was an exciting time in design in Europe, and this piece unapologetically embraces the romance of the country cottage idyll that was so important in the Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic Movement.
23.5cm diameter x 2.25cm high.
Condition is very good antique condition - a lovely set for display or use. No chips or cracks. Very light crazing, a few tiny flea bite glaze losses from the rim, signs of use / wear commensurate with age (scrapes, scratches, etc). One plate has slight glaze loss on its surface 0.5cm, likely present since the time of manufacture. Please see photos for condition and feel free to ask any questions.
