Primitive French Oak Screw-Form Plant Stand or Plinth, made from a c.1890 wine press in the late 19th / early 20th century.
This fabulous piece is made in solid oak, formed form a hand-carved screw from an old wine press as the central column. The rough hand-worked finish and simple construction give it strong rustic presence, while the rough-hewn spiral support adds texture and sculptural movement to any space.
Use as a practical domestic stand / small end table, or as a pedestal for ceramics, sculpture, plants, or stacked books.
Diameter 20 cm (7.9 in), height 45 cm (17.7 in). Condition: light wear consistent with age, some splits to the wine press screw (possibly why it was retired from use).
