A lovely PAIR of English Staffordshire wall / display plates c1850 from Pinder, Bourne & Hope, in the Hyacinth pattern. Featuring floral sprays and scrolled molded border in a gentle palette of sage green and pink with yellow highlights, hand painted over a base of black transferware.
A charming pair of plates, showing the variations common between pieces, ideal for a collector of antique transferware, or for lovers of Staffordshire pottery. Features a beautiful sculpted border with scrolls and rope patterns, and charming floral sprays in a hand painted colorway.
The colors are in a pastel palette of delicate sage green, along with pink and yellow. Subtle variations and graduations in the color create depth, with the shade and highlights within the polychrome hand painted glazes accenting the sculpted elements to beautiful effect.
Dimensions each plate: Diameter - 22.7cm Height - 3cm
Bearing the makers mark for PB&H (Pinder, Bourne & Hope, partnership active from 1850-1862) and the pattern name 'Hyacinth' hand painted decoration number '993'.
Important note - these plates are recommended as most suitable for display or light / occasional use only. Not suitable for dishwashers.
CONDITION - One piece in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks, very little crazing, a few very tiny scrapes and 'flea bites' here and there, scratches and light signs of use. The second piece is good condition, as above, but with the presence of a small hairline fissure at the outer rim of 2-3cm. This is difficult to discern at a normal viewing distance and the plate remains solidly fixed with no movement at the crack. Overall light signs of wear and use, with no major issues to detract from appearance on display.
