Pair greyhound vintage bookends, Set of 2 French Art Deco bronze racing dog sculptures on grey marble base c 1930, France

An elegant pair of bronze sculptural bookends of racing greyhounds, from France, during the Art Deco period. Rare artistic sculptural forms that also works as a functional objects, to organize your books in a supremely stylish way.

The bronze sculptures each depict two running dogs who are jumping a fence, a lovely study of racing greyhounds in motion. The sculptures are identical but have been mounted to mirror each other - use them in any orientation you like (facing the books, running out from them, or straight on) on your shelves.

The sculptures have been mounted on grey marble bases to add weight and stability to the forms. Very decorative embellishments to add life and practicality to your book case or to set out a small book collection on any flat surface in your home. This charming pair would be a lovely addition to a variety of interior décor styles - bohemian, art deco, mid century, or as an ideal gift for a dog lover! Perfect for arranging books, as paperweights, or simply as a pair of fabulous French Art Deco sculptures.

DIMENSIONS -
Overall maximum dimensions are: 15cm long x 7.7cm wide x 11.5cm tall. (The base is 15cm long x 7.7cm wide x 2cm high. The bronze sculptures are 14cm long (from the nose of the leading dog to the back end of the foot) x 3cm wide x 9cm tall. )

Condition is good. A few very small scrapes / flea bite chips to the marble bases but nothing to detract from the overall enjoyment of the pieces - see photos for condition. A small fissure to note between teh fence and the body of the dogs on one of the pieces. Attractive color and patina on the bronze with some color difference between the two pieces, one presenting with a pewter type finish, the other a brighter copper color. Please note that these pieces are 'as found' - I have cleaned but not polished the bronze so the metal could probably be brought up to a higher shine if desired; however, because the patina and finish cannot be replaced if removed, I prefer to leave this to the buyer's preference. The bronze sculptures are securely mounted to the bases but have some rocking movement - this does not affect the function at all and could probably be tightened from below (since this would require removing the felt on the base so I have not done this). Felt on the base has been partly removed on one piece (see photos).

A lovely authentic French vintage set, beautiful to look at, as well as very useful for organising your bookshelf!
