PAIR French antique square dinner ironstone dinner plates navy blue and white transferware, aged wall plates w patina by Gien France c1890

A shabby but gorgeous pair of French dinner plates featuring very pretty late Neoclassical, early Art Nouveau foliate border design and central cartouche in blue transferware and bearing the mark for Gien France made around 1890. The beautiful gently aged ivory of the surface is complemented by the striking deep blue border design, featuring stylized flowers, scrolls and acanthus leaf patterns.

In shabby antique condition with a 'tea-stain' patina of age - no cracks but scrapes, chips and scuffing to the rim. Other signs of use and wear (scratches, scuffs to the surface) and heavy crazing of the glaze. Colour is aged tea stain patina, considerably darker on one of the plates, but generally consistent without too much patchiness. Please see photos for condition and feel free to ask any questions.
