A lovely pair of Antique hand painted Minton Staffordshire dinner plates in Chinoiserie style from the Edwardian era. Beautifully preserved, these lovely plates evoke classic antique cottage style featuring a stunning formal border design with floral sprays and stylised elements, in a beautiful polychrome palette in primarily royal blue and pink with elements of orange, green, black and brown.
Priced and sold as a PAIR / set of 2 (14 are available in total - please enquire for shipping multiple sets together)
Stamped with the mark for Mintons, with a mark in use from 1912.
These plates are generously proportioned with a very slight scalloped edge. The rims are decorated with a very ornate and highly-detailed trellis border with a lustre finish, and repeating floral motif. The brilliant color is rendered by hand over a blue transfer outline. Different flower and foliate elements form part of the pattern, with variable spray compositions, trellis and cartouches adding to the depth and interest. The exquisite design is intricately rendered and very richly coloured, the colour having lost none of its vibrancy. A lovely example of intricate transferware augmented by skilled hand painting.
Dimensions each plate - 25.5cm diameter x 2.8cm high
In very good antique condition - no chips or cracks. Some light signs of use, including small scratches, glaze scrapes, wear to the inner and outer rims, and light all-over crazing. Please note that due to the over glazed finish, I would not recommend these plates for everyday use - OK with dry food (such as cake or candies) but ideally these would remain on display.
Stunning on display, perfect for the plate rack or cabinet, or serving tea cakes for your next tea party, these are beautiful antique plates to display and enjoy!
