A substantial French confit pot in pale ecru stoneware with applied loop handles and a rich natural patina, dating from around 1900. These robust vessels were traditionally used throughout rural France for preserving meat beneath a protective layer of fat.
The soft ecru glaze, generous proportions and heavy stoneware body are characteristic of traditional provincial confit pots. The firing marks visible on this example are original manufacturing features created during production.

Condition: Original kiln re-firing mark together with an internal firing fissure to the rim, both manufacturing faults rather than later damage.
