Exceptional complete 'Burgenland' 12 to 24 place dinner service featuring an iconic design from renowned German maker Villeroy and Boch in blue and white transferware, with a mark dating from c1959-1970. The set of 84 pieces comprises place settings for 12 to 24 people: 24 dinner plates, 12 side plates, 12 soup plates plus a generous ensemble of matching serve ware - and also includes an immaculate tea / coffee service for 12!
Named for the Austrian province, the Burgenland series features romantic landscapes of castles, rivers and mountains, all rendered in a highly detailed blue transferware print. On the base of crisp white earthenware, the design features an ensemble of different characters and scenes, a rich story that winds through an idyllic landscape of rivers, lakes, castles, churches and forests. The central scenes are surrounded by an intricate floral border, full of a profusion of flowers, foliage and stylized scroll designs. Lightly scalloped shape and molded borders complete the detailing of this classic set.

Every piece in very good to excellent vintage condition, no chips or cracks. You may see very light signs of wear and use, mostly small scratches on the surface, some very tiny 'fleabite' glaze losses / scrapes on the rim of a few pieces. Any small issues are noted in the inventory above. Colour is crisp white with almost no discoloration or staining. Every piece in this service is still in great condition for display and use. Stamped for Villeroy & Boch 's Mettlach factory, mark dating from 1959-1970. (Please note that there are some variations between the marks, some will be from different batches, though all present the same pattern and form).
