A fabulous large emerald green barbotine majolica ceramic bottle with its stopper celebrating the iconic 'Morris Columns' of Paris. A beautiful decorative and functional object in excellent vintage condition with its cork stopper and all its original Music Hall posters in place.
The bottle is molded in the image of the Morris Column, one of the most iconic and well loved elements of Parisian street architecture. The Morris columns were designed by Gabriel Morris and deployed throughout Paris streets from 1868 onwards as a response to an epidemic of advertising, theatre and concert posters proliferating on every available surface in Paris during the Belle Epoque. Designed to provide a structured and regulated platform for all such materials to help retain the integral beauty of Paris streets, the Morris Columns became icons in themselves, and are still used today.
The bottle is stamped on the bottom by collectable ceramics maker Franor Royale, France. This bottle is an example rarely found in excellent vintage condition without chips or cracks and crucially with its original replica posters intact, advertising the Moulin Rouge and Tabarin Music Hall.
An example of this bottle can be found in the Carnavalet museum of Paris History
