A lovely French vintage bird of paradise early Art Deco serving platter, round plate on a raised pedestal, deep burnt sienna / rust orange colour c1910-1923, from the factory of T Fenal of Badonviller, France. In excellent condition to use and enjoy, this piece is a lovely way to add authentic French vintage charm to your kitchen.
Featuring stylized Art Deco designs, with a Bird of Paradise in the center, this piece is rendered in a beautiful colourway of earthy rust tones of burnt orange on an ivory ground using classic stencil / airbrush paint techniques. From renowned maker Theodore Fenal of Badonviller, this piece bears a backstamp which dates it prior to 1923, firmly in the early Art Deco period. This design 'Paradis' is a famous pattern that has been attributed to the renowned ceramic artist Geo Conde who was artistic director of the faienceries of Lunèville, Saint-Clément and Badonviller until the 1930s.
Diameter 22cm for a nicely sized round serving dish.
This piece will be a great addition to a kitchen where you'd like your vintage finds to do double duty for serving.
CONDITION: In excellent vintage condition - No cracks or chips, glazes are in good condition and the plate remains suitable for use. A few very tiny fleabites from the rims, not visible on display. Signs of use and wear (light scratches, scuffs) and some age-appropriate crazing of the glaze. Colour is generally consistent with some ivory colouring from age, and a pretty creamy white ground.
