French bug and floral design ceramic ravier, antique small serving dish, Aesthetic Movement, blue transferware by Fenal Freres Pexonne c1890

A gorgeous French antique ceramic oval 'ravier' serving dish from the faienceries of Fenal Freres ('F.F.') of Pexonne, France. Featuring a stunning design of flowers & bugs, very rare to find, and in such fabulous condition, this 19th C dish will be an elegant addition to any room.

Small oval plates ('raviers' in French) would have been used to serve vegetables, but this classic form with smooth interior bowl could lend itself to many decorative purposes - a coin bowl, jewelry tray, flower bowl, etc.

Made in navy blue transferware, from Fenal Freres, Pexonne, France in the pattern "Champs de Fleurs", featuring cute bugs and flowers, in a lovely Aesthetic Movement design. In excellent antique condition and still very usable. This is a classic piece of blue and white late Victorian floral china with intricate decoration of vining floral and foliate designs, all rendered in a lovely navy-blue transferware.

This piece would be absolutely ideal for collectors of French china (or any bug-fanciers!). Excellent color retaining a crisp white base without any significant discoloration.

24cm long x 12.5cm wide x 4cm high.

In excellent antique condition with no cracks or chips. Light signs of use and wear (small scratches, scuffs) and age-appropriate crazing of the glaze. There is a little greyish discoloration present on the underside and outer rim; colour remains consistent in a lightly aged white for the inner bowl. A few small spots and scratches to be expected with an age of 120+ years.

This beautiful dish will be an elegant addition to your vintage, French country or farmhouse interior.
