A lovely-but-shabby French antique tall, and large cake stand / compotier in blue and white transferware earthenware (ironstone) with a tea-stained patina. Antique style in this bold deep navy blue piece with authentic signs of age! From the renowned faienceries of Longwy, with a production mark dating the piece precisely to December of 1886.
Very romantic design with birds and beautiful stylised floral sprays of cherry blossoms in a Japanese-inspired design, typical of the Aesthetic Movement and the height of Victorian style.
This shabby beauty is made in earthenware with a creamy white paste and navy blue transferware. A perfect French country design, in a classic blue and white colourway.
Marked on the base with a stamp with the pattern name Delft and maker's mark for Longwy, along with an impressed production / date stamp (reads: 'Longwy D O 1286') which places the manufacturing date for this piece as December 1886.

Prettily showing the passing of all its 120 + years of age, this piece is in shabby antique condition with a heavy tea stain patina and many signs of use and wear. A significant chip at the outer plate rim. Otherwise, small areas of glaze loss, all over scratches and crazing of the glaze, some patchy discoloration, and a very 'tea-stained' appearance. No cracks. Please ensure you thoroughly check all photos for condition as the condition will not suit everyone - though lovers of aged and shabby objects will love this one!
Perfect for the plate rack or sideboard, this remains a beautiful piece of classic French faience to display and enjoy for lovers of shabby objects!
