A gorgeous French antique salad bowl ('saladier') in teal blue transferware with acacia blossom floral design, from St Amand, France c1896-1924. In very good condition, ready to use on your table. Gorgeous on display, this piece would also be perfect put to use as a fruit bowl, or for salads.
The factory of Hamage St Amand specialized in fine earthenware and majolica and were known for their excellent quality of transferware decoration. This beautiful plate is made in earthenware with a white paste and teal blue transferware. A perfect French country design, this pattern was typical of the period when the Aesthetic Movement was dominant in French salons.
Vignettes of Acacia blossoms form a striking naturalistic pattern across this dish, accompanied by the cute repeating border pattern. In the "flower language" of Victorians, Acacia flowers symbolized sophistication and wit, along with strong, supportive friendship. Perfect as a gift for a friend, or for events with your cherished people.
In very good antique condition. A small chip / scrape to the underside of the foot rim (not visible on display). No cracks or other damage, glazes remain in very good condition. Light scratches, moderate crazing, general small signs of age and use. You may also see small manufacturing faults such as glaze smears and / or small inclusions under the glaze, as to be expected with the manufacturing standards of the time. See photos for condition and feel free to ask in questions. Remains a lovely piece for use and display.
