A gorgeous French antique salad / fruit bowl in petrol blue transferware with stunning central floral design, from the late Aesthetic Movement. Made by Les Grands Etablissements Céramique, St Amand, France c1908-1920.
The factories of St Amand were known for their excellent quality of transferware decoration. This beautiful bowl is made in earthenware with a white paste and deep petrol blue / teal transferware. A perfect French country design, transcending fashions with its classic appeal.
A lovely depiction of a stem of trumpet flowers (possibly a variety of lily) forms a striking central motif in this design, accompanied by a repeating, stylised pattern around the border, with tiny tendrils vining about the rim. Although the central motif is Aesthetic Movement, the outer border shows the influence of the emerging Art Nouveau which would come to dominate fashions just a few years later.

CONDITION - In very good antique condition - No chips or crack, no major discolouration, deep scrapes or scratches. To be expected at an age of 100+ years, this piece has signs of age and use including some moderate scratches and minor crazing; also other minor manufacturing faults such as small inclusions under the glaze, as to be expected with the manufacturing standards of the time. See photos for damage and faults.
Gorgeous on display, this piece would also be perfect put to use as a fruit bowl, or for salads.
