A charming antique ironstone faience earthenware small round platter / large plate in red transferware. In fabulous condition, featuring a very lightly aged cream ground, with highly detailed transfer printed design of vignettes of flowers. A lovely piece of very romantic antique faience ware stamped for 'SFNGR' which is the name of a society of department stores in France at the turn of the 20th century, this plate was likely produced for this store by renowned makers St Amand, France
The late 1800s was an exciting time in design in Europe, and this piece unapologetically embraces the romance of the country cottage idyll that was so important in the Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic movement. This design features a summer scene with vignettes of blooms and leaves. The gorgeous red transferware is set off beautifully by the cream-colored ground to create the inimitable look of an authentic antique.
28cm diameter x 3cm high.
Condition - Very good antique condition - No major damage to note but you may see small signs of use and wear such as minor crazing tiny 'fleabite' chips glaze losses to the rim, scrapes, scratches and spots of discoloration and other small defects, all to be expected for an age over 100 years. the plate has a 4cm glaze skip to the rear surface. The plate does have a very charming tea-stained patina consistent across its whole surface, please see photos. In lovely condition for age, gorgeous on display and nothing to prevent continued use, as desired.
Stunning pieces of romantic French antique design to treasure!
