A rare and beautiful French antique barbotine majolica plate, in a lovely floral design with pansy flowers. Hand made by Hautin Boulenger et Cie of Choisy-le-Roi France as a high end production piece. A lovely piece for a collector of majolica, or for lovers of French design.
Features a beautiful barbotine sculpted surface with raised flowers and leaves in pansy flowers. The colors are in a pastel palette of delicate pink, purple and yellow for the flowers and light green and yellow for the leaves, with a brighter green for the hand painted stems. Subtle variations and graduations in the color create depth, with the shade and highlights within the polychrome hand painted glazes accenting the sculpted elements to beautiful effect.
In good antique condition with no cracks. A series of small chips and hg=glaze loses to the back of the outer rim (not visible on display) and one tiny flea bite of approx. 1mm diameter from the front rim. Light all over crazing, signs of use, a soft tea stain patina. Overall lightly aged look, no major damage to detract from appearance on display. Marked on the reverse with a stamp for Hautin Boulenger et Cie Choisy-le-Roi France, with a mark in use from 1836.
