A stunning hand painted French antique Gien lidded cache pot, in white ironstone with trellis and floral designs in blue, red and yellow, with Renaissance style dolphin lid finial and ornate handles. Made in France in the late 19th century.

Featuring beautiful flourishes in barbotine majolica, with its scrolling handles and quirky dolphin final, this is an elegant and timeless design. Made in majolica earthenware and bears the makers mark which dates it as between to the late 1800s from renowned French faience factory Faiencerie de Gien, France.

This beautiful piece of French serving ware is made in earthenware with an ivory white paste to create an elegant barbotine piece finished with ornate molded embellishments, including scroll sculpted handles and a gorgeous dolphin-shaped finial for the lid. Hand painted trellis and floral designs complete this perfect antique design. At home in any décor, and in suitable condition for continued use.

Condition is very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks, some very small areas of glaze loss, along with minor patchy discoloration and tea staining inside the bowl (see photos). Light scrapes, scratches and signs of use. Light all over crazing to be expected with age of 120+ years. Excellent on display and rare to find with intact lid, handles and finial. This piece still displays very well with a sense of history and vintage charm - a perfect small jar for cookies, candy or nuts!
