A very sweet French antique lidded soap or toothbrush dish in polychrome transferware earthenware (ironstone) with naturalistic floral designs of water lilies with a mismatched marble effect base. In a lovely exuberant Victorian-era design c1890 - 1900, this piece is a marriage of two separate pieces, sold 'as found' in a local market in France.
Originally designed as a toiletries dish for holding razors or toothbrushes, this would make a wonderful bathroom accessory or for your dressing table - for small soaps, makeup or jewelry storage!
The lid of this beautiful dish features a delightful design of water lilies hand painted over a mauve / purple transferware base design. The base features a marbled effect in the glaze, a slightly different color to the transferware on top, but working well with it. Both pieces made in ironstone / earthenware with a white paste for a sweet French country design, in an unusual and ornate floral design, and totally unique.

Condition is good with no damage to either piece - however, as it is a marriage between two different parts, I have priced this piece as if it were in shabby antique condition. You may see small manufacturing faults, light scrapes, scratches, light all over crazing consistent with the age of the piece. Please see photos for condition and feel free to ask any questions.
Still displays very nicely and remains a beautiful piece of classic French faience to use, display and enjoy!
