A very elegant French antique soup tureen ('soupiere') in teal grey green transferware. Classic French vintage style in a gorgeous floral transfer print, with a mix of stylised Art Nouveau forms and naturalistic floral sprays. This is a lovely example of French transferware transitioning from the Aesthetic Movement, into the Art Nouveau period. Made in high quality earthenware c1900-1910 by the renowned faiencerie of HB et Cie (Hautin Boulenger and Co), Choisy-le-Roi, Paris, France.
This lovely bowl is classic piece of French design, perfect French Country style. A stunning floral border design in an unusual shade of teal green featuring a gorgeous pattern of entwined roses accompanied by geometric patterns. Stunning sculpted handles, which are hand painted with their feathery patterns. Impressed with production numbers on the base, along with the stamped maker's mark, with a mark in use before 1920. This bowl will be a fabulous piece as a centerpiece, candy dish, or for flowers, small fruits, or as a nut dish for a special table decoration.
The design is intricate yet remains open and airy, with naturalistic vining of the rose flowers on their thorny vine. The design features lovely shading in the leaves of the flower petals, and is finished with a more stylized border around the top rim and foot. A lovely design, typical of the styles find during the Parisian Belle Epoque.
CONDITION - The soupiere is missing its lid. Aside from this major issue, the base is in very good antique condition with some signs of use, a scrapes and small glaze losses, no other chips or cracks. Some manufacturing irregularities including color variations, spots under the glaze as to be expected for manufacturing processes of the time and a few small areas of darker discoloration inside the bowl. The bowl is still in great condition for display or use.
