A lovely deep blue mustard dish from the famous Jules Vieillard et Cie of Bordeaux. Antique French faience of high quality, with a beautiful cobalt blue transferware decoration. This sweet footed dish was made in French ironstone (earthenware) in Bordeaux France in the 19th century, around 1870. In great antique condition with some light crazing and glaze smudges typical of this antique transferware technique, this is a classic French country piece which shows all the signs of a long life.
Elegant floral patterns cover its white background, and it has wide foot and a ridged, tapered bowl.
This piece is in very good antique condition with a mature 2cm hairline inside the rim. As to be expected given its 150 years of use, you may see some discoloration and glaze smudges/losses, and general signs of use. It is still perfectly useable or will make a lovely display piece.
Please check all the photos to make sure you are comfortable with the condition before you buy.
Stamped on the base for Jules Vieillard Bordeaux, the famous faience / earthenware maker. Jules Vieillard succeeded to the management of the already well-established faiencerie of David Johnston & Co in 1845. Under his oversight, the industrial success of the plant in Bacalan (Bordeaux) was assured, but also the artistic quality of the products, which were unanimously applauded at multiple world exhibitions in Paris, and ensured that 'Vieillard' pottery became a byword for exceptional quality.
Dimensions:
7cm diameter (bowl) / 12cm diameter (foot piece)
An authentic piece of French antique ceramic ware to display and enjoy.
Feel free to ask any questions! :)
