French antique butterfly floral pattern ironstone water jug, blue & white transferware Victorian Aesthetic Movement c1890

Stunning romantic French antique water pitcher from the late 19th century. Beautiful decoration in deep blue transferware on an creamy white base. This late Victorian pattern shows a striking non-repeating floral design with a sweet butterfly on the pouring spout - a lovely Aesthetic Movement pattern, ideal for a French Country interior. Unsigned and undated, this piece dates to the late 1800s and presents with a lovely rustic off white glaze and deep navy blue decoration. The transferware printing is bold and graphic, with lovely shading and naturalistic depictions of insects and flowers - a lovely example of the art of ironstone transferware with so much detail to enjoy in this piece. Originally this water jug was used for washing, so while each piece would work in any room (the jug as a stunning vase; the bowl as a large fruit bowl or table centerpiece) this piece would be ideal as a décor piece for a romantic and relaxing bathroom scheme, or for wedding photos or table decoration. In good antique condition, no cracks or major damage. A small nick from the handle embellishment (see pictures). Rustic firing has resulted in glaze bubble and ridges, greyish spots, and a tiny firing fault in the base, lines of grey discoloration inside the jug. Still displays very well but with a rustic / farmhouse look rather than highly polished. Please see photos for condition and feel free to ask any questions.
