French antique barbotine majolica plate, songbirds on flower branch design, polychrome on cream-yellow ground, ridged border, France c1890

A French antique barbotine majolica plate, in a lovely design with grey birds on branches and blue flowers. Hand made in France c1890. A charming plate ideal for a collector of majolica, or for lovers of French faience.

Features a beautiful barbotine sculpted surface with raised flowers and leaves and charming songbirds in a hand painted colorway. Also, a lovely ridged border with a repeating pattern that edges each piece. The colors are in a pastel palette of delicate duck egg green, along with blue, grey, green and brown. Subtle variations and graduations in the color create depth, with the shade and highlights within the polychrome hand painted glazes accenting the sculpted elements to beautiful effect.

CONDITION - Very good antique condition with a small mature visible chip on the rim. Some discoloration of the glaze is also present. You may see some fleabites / glaze losses or faults and light signs of use. Overall light signs of wear and use, with no cracks. In spite of the chip it is still suitable for use on display as a lovely antique French piece.
