An elegant French antique blue transferware cake stand / footed platter ('compotier' in French) in the 'Marie Louise' pattern by Creil and Montereau. Classic French antique design in the Empire style featuring a border of densely patterned florals, ribbons and wreaths in deep blue transferware on a crisp white ground.
This beautiful pattern dates from around 1890, made in France by renowned faience makers Creil and Montereau. The striking border design presents a formal repeating pattern of intricately wrought elements, including ribbons, laurel wreaths, acanthus leaves and scrolling forms.
In excellent antique condition, no cracks or chips. A few signs of use, minor all over crazing. Some blue spots and smears present also as to be expected for manufacturing processes of the time - these arise from the more "handmade" processes in use at the time of manufacturing and are part of the charm of these old objects. Overall, in a condition that shows something of its age of 130 years but remains suitable for display or use.
23cm diameter x 10cm high, bowl is 4cm deep (approx.)
A gorgeous serving plate or on display, this piece would be lovely as a centerpiece, to present fruits, or to serve petit fours or other delicate fancies. An elegant way to add French antique style to your home!
Feel free to ask any questions :)
