A beautiful English vintage blue and white transferware large dinner service in the classic 'Asiatic Pheasants' pattern, very elegant and timeless to fit with any décor. The set of 83 pieces includes place settings for 24 people: 24 dinner plates, 12 side plates, 12 soup plates plus matching serve ware - and also includes a coffee service for 12! Marked for Enoch Wedgwood Potteries with a stamp in use from 1965-1980.
As well as the lovely blue and white palette and delightful designs, this set has well-proportioned plates for modern dining, along with a generous array of serving dishes (soupiere, bowls, gravy boat, platters of all sizes AND a fabulous matching coffee set) make this service extremely practical for table settings for all occasions.
Based on a classic Asiatic Pheasants design from the 19th century, this service features a very ornate and highly detailed floral border, Japanese-inspired motifs including cherry blossoms, chrysanthemum flowers and two Phoenix birds alighting on flower-bedecked branches. Rendered in blue transferware this is a formal composition with the central scene surrounded by repeating floral sprays under a continuous line border of scrolls, seeds and foliate forms. Different flower and foliate elements form part of the pattern, with variable spray compositions, scrolls and cartouches adding to the depth and interest. A lovely example of intricate transferware in an ornate homage to the Arts and Crafts style.
