A stunning group of 5 antique 19th C Aesthetic Movement plates in crisp royal blue transferware. Designed by the renowned ceramic artist Pierre Mallett in the rare and lovely 'Canova' ornithological pattern and made at the potteries Brown, Westhead and Moore (Cauldon) of Staffordshire with a registry mark from 1868. A stunning series of blue & white, with a forward-looking design, sold in Paris in the 19th century at the famous Grand Depot of Emile Bourgouis. 5 pieces available, sold individually or as a group.

Sized at almost 27cm (10"1/4) these are large dinner plates (especially for the time) that could also serve as a small serving platter. In a range of beautiful transfer printed designs, all on an ornithological theme. Birds are shown in naturalistic style, perching on a flower, in a garden and one with a chained foot. The bright blue glaze and crisp white ground, along with the almost minimalist compositions gives these a surprisingly modern feel. These fabulous pieces of Staffordshire pottery, were commissioned for the French market, and bear backstamps for both B.W.M & C (Brown, Westhead and Moore), and the Grand Depot Emile Bourgouis.

Please choose the plate you'd like from the selections available. Please note that a discount of 15% is available for the purchase of the set of 5 pieces together, which can be refunded after purchase or arranged prior - please contact me to acquire the set and I will adjust the pricing and shipping for you.

Condition for all pieces is excellent antique condition. No cracks or chips, very little crazing, light signs of wear and use including surface scratches from cutlery, a few scrapes, small areas of glaze loss and discoloration on the reverse. The color of the white ground remains crisp and clear, with no patchy discoloration / staining. Additional photos are available, please don't hesitate to ask!
