A sweet country-style jug from the late Victorian / early Edwardian period, probably c 1900-1910 with angular sculpted handle, tapered form and naturalistic pattern of wild roses in brown transferware, hand coloured in deep crimson / burgundy, forest green and russet orange tones. With a sweet design over a functional farmhouse form, this lovely piece speaks to the emerging move to simplicity after the maximalism of the Victorian age, while still referencing the romantic ideals of the Arts and Crafts and Aesthetic Movements.

With a polychrome pattern beautifully painted over brown transfer print, this piece has an earthy, autumnal palette with depth and interest. The tiny details of the tone-on-tone transferware design creates depth while the bold foliate sprays cover the body of the jug. A subtle molding of the handle finishes the design.

No makers mark, but likely English make, and probably made between 1900-1910.

In good vintage condition - signs of use, no chips. A very fine hairline crack at the rim of approx 2cm length. Some discoloration of the glaze inside the jug and an all over patina of age with moderate crazing. Remains in good condition for display or use - would be a perfect cottage style vase.

19.5cm high x 15cm wide (from tip of spout to back of handle) x 12cm diameter at the base, tapering slightly towards the top.

Delightful on display and would also be lovely to serve as a vase. A fabulous piece to add to your home decor!
