A stunning antique hand painted Chinoiserie display plate from the early 20th century in polychrome glazes of pink, green, yellow and blue from Wedgwood. Bearing the Etruria mark in use after 1908.
This piece features a very beautiful hand painted Asiatic motif, reminiscent of the Apprey style of decoration, with a robed figure in a garden and accompanying floral and foliate vining details on the border, all exquisitely painted in rich polychrome glazes.
Marked with a pattern number of A5591 and an accompanying mark (either '1/1' or a symbol). A fabulous and rare piece of Staffordshire pottery, ideal for a collector of Wedgwood wares.
Condition is very good antique condition. Overall body is sound with no chip or cracks. Light tea stain patina, light age-appropriate crazing, light signs of wear and use including light surface scratches, a few very tiny glaze losses (under 1mm diameter) at the rim, scrapes to the base (not visible on display). The color of the white ground has turned to a creamy ivory with a tea stain patina, but little patchy discoloration, for a pleasingly aged look.
Dimensions: 26cm diameter x 2.4cm high
Overall, this plate displays very nicely while showing signs of its age. It has a real beauty, not only with the artistry and skill of its making, but also with its glow that comes with the subtle patina of aging. This piece remains a lovely object to display in pride of place, and to enjoy every day.
