A beautiful vintage brass lidded trinket box, time worn with a patina of use and age. Pressed and embossed floral form, in an early Arts and Crafts / Secessionist style, with pleasing subtle irregularities in the shape from age and use.
This lovely piece would function beautifully for small storage of all kinds - jewelry, crafts, or anything else you need to stash.
Condition is worn antique condition - originally silver plated, the only place that the finish remains is inside the lid. No holes, repairs or major dents. minor deformations of base and lid (see photos), uneven patination, small spots of verdigris developing. The interior of the larger box is slightly corroded and might need to be used with a liner depending on the usage. The colour now presents as gently gold brass, with a patina of age and use. Please note that I have not polished this item at all, so it would be possible to remove the patina to bring it to a higher shine if desired. However, since I can't replace the patina again if I polish it, I would prefer to leave this to the choice of the eventual buyer.
Undated and unmarked, but given the style, method of fabrication and level of wear, this piece probably dates from around 1900-1910. Sourced from a brocante sale in SW France.
