A lovely example of a blue fluted lace variation with this antique earthenware soup plate, in a beautiful and timeless blue and white design, hand painted in the late 19th century by renowned French ceramics maker U&C (Utzschneider Cie) of Sarreguemines, France.
A light and open design with a tracery of stylized flowers, foliage and scroll designs. Delicate fluting creates lovely additional interest in the molded border rim detail. An absolute design classic based on the Copenhagen patterns and Blue Fluted Lace designs of Royal Boch from the 18th century.
Price is for ONE plate. 5 examples are available at the time of listing. Shipping can be combined at very favorable rates - for example three plates can ship for the price of 1! (Please just ask and I'll be happy to quote you exactly to your destination, or I can refund you after your order.)
CONDITION -
Plates 1, 2 & 3 - In excellent condition, no chips or cracks. Light signs of wear and use, mostly small scratches on the surface, fine crazing overall. Colour is crisp white with no discoloration or staining, blue paint work is vibrant and clear. In fabulous condition for display and use.
Plate 4 - In very good condition - all notes as for 1,2 & 3 above but with a small non-penetrating hairline crack visible at the back of the plate. No movement at the crack, plate is still watertight, and nothing is visible on display.
Plate 5 - In good condition - same condition as for Plate 4 above (with a non-penetrating hairline) and also with a small manufacturing fault of a small overglazed nick at the rim.
In addition to the above, you may see inclusions under the glaze, spots and smears, etc resulting from the looser manufacturing standards of the time and more handmade processes for these pieces. Two examples have noticeable (and rather charming) transfer of the blue painted pattern on part of the underside from stacking the glazed pieces together before firing. These features are part of the vintage charm of these pieces and speak to the processes used to make them.
Please see photos for condition and feel free to ask any questions.
Stamped for Sarreguemines, with a mark dating from 1870 - 1900.
Diameter: 24.5 cm
Height: 5 cm
A fantastic antique piece to use and enjoy for years to come!
Please feel free to ask any questions - I'm very happy to combine shipping :)
