A particularly attractive antique milk jug by St Uze in glazed French stoneware, decorated with finely printed blue floral motifs enriched by additional leaf detailing across the body. The softly rounded form, narrow neck, and characteristic offset side handle give the piece the elegant but practical profile typical of St Uze domestic wares produced at the turn of the twentieth century.
Pottery from St Uze, in the Drôme region of southeastern France, became highly regarded for its hard-wearing stoneware body combined with decorative stencil ornament in cobalt blue. Everyday forms such as milk jugs were made for practical table use but now remain especially sought after because they capture the charm of provincial French domestic life while retaining strong decorative presence.
The slightly asymmetrical offset handle gives this example particular character and makes it instantly recognisable among regional French stonewares. Its medium scale is highly versatile today: ideal for fresh flowers, cream service, kitchen utensils, or displayed with other blue-and-white French ceramics on open shelving.
Height 13.5 cm (5.3 in), width 13 cm (5.1 in).
Excellent antique condition with clean glaze, strong decoration, and very good overall presentation.
