Antique Sarreguemines 'Germaine' Dinner Service, Art Nouveau Blue White Terre de Fer, 34 pc

A beautiful French antique dinner service in a stunning and rare design with place settings for up to 12 people, plus a set of matching serving dishes. From Sarreguemines, France in the pattern 'Germaine' . This service was made in French faience ('terre de fer') c1860-1890, remains in lovely antique condition, very usable and displays beautifully.

Featuring a strong stylised floral design, sinuous Art Nouveau / Art Deco lines in a gorgeous antique tone-on-tone blue, with deep navy and light grey blue colorway. This pattern embodies many wonderful aspects of belle époque Parisian design and the fabulous soft grey blue palette makes this piece elegant and timeless to fit with any décor. Nice aging of the surface with a soft ivory colour to the ground, subtle light tea stain patina on some pieces.

This service foregrounds an elegant Art Nouveau design of floral patterns with the 'coup de fouet' or 'whiplash' elements, with geometric motifs which suggest the early influence of deco. The design reflects the converging aesthetics of early 20th Century French arts and crafts design. A truly stunning design.

CONDITION -
Overall, this set remains in very good to excellent condition with a gentle patina of age. Very light crazing to some pieces, light scratches, a few very small areas of glaze loss, a few small areas of discoloration, etc. Also, it is manufactured using more 'handmade' processes than today, and you may see areas of glaze smudging, glaze spots, bubbles under the glaze as is normal for transferware and part of the vintage charm of the items. With the exception of a few minor flaws everything is in excellent condition and remarkably well preserved for its age of 150+ years - the service remains fully usable and will display well for years to come.

12 soup plates (23.5 cm diameter height 4 cm). All in very good to excellent antique condition.
6 side plates (21 cm diameter height 2 cm). All in very good antique condition.
1 Soupiere / tureen with lid (Diameter 22.5cm x H 15.5cm W 31cm with handles H 23.5cm incl. lid). In excellent condition
1 small round serving platter (25.5 cm diameter height 1.8 cm) in very good condition, light areas of discoloration to the surface and a small chip (apple seed sized) to the rim underside.
1 oval platter - 42.5cm long x 31cm wide x 5cm high in excellent condition
1 tall footed compotier (23cm diameter x 14.5cm high) In excellent antique condition.
1 footed compotier / cake stand (23cm diameter x 5cm high) In very good to excellent condition
