A large antique cul noir platter in tin-glazed faience with manganese-blackened underside, decorated with a classic basket motif in the Rouen tradition. Cul noir wares take their name from the dark manganese glaze applied to the reverse - a practical and regional characteristic found particularly in Normandy pottery workshops during the nineteenth century.
