A shabby-but-gorgeous set of 7 French antique elegant soup plates in a stunning and rare design from Jules Vieillard et Cie of Bordeaux, France. This service was made in fine faience c1860-1890, remains in lovely antique condition, very usable and displays beautifully.
This magnificent set was produced during the third empire in France, in the mid-late 19th Century by the highly respected maker Jules Vieillard of Bordeaux. The lavish design features an understated but richly detailed border transferware pattern of floral and scroll elements with a central cartouche. Rare to find in such wonderful condition.

CONDITION - Overall, this set remains in good condition on the display face with a gentle patina of age, some areas of discoloration. All plates have chips on their rear surface, there are no cracks.
You will see also light signs of the passage of time including light crazing, a few scratches, a few very small areas of glaze loss, small areas of discoloration, etc. Although this was a very high quality production in its day, you will see it is manufactured using more 'handmade' processes than today, so you may see areas of glaze smudging, glaze spots, bubbles under the glaze - this is normal for antique transferware and part of the vintage charm of the items. With the exception of a few minor flaws everything all plates are in excellent condition and remarkably well preserved for their age of 150+ years - the set remains fully usable and will display well for years to come.
