A beautiful Antique French green and white ironstone cake stand / footed plate, in the green transferware design "Cahors" by St Amand, c1890. This elegant piece is in the Empire style, featuring a formal Neoclassical design, with a striking border pattern of laurel wreaths, ribbons & garlands.
This cake / dessert stand ('compotier' in French) is in an absolutely classic French Country design, very elegant and timeless to fit with any décor. In very good condition with a lovely color retaining a crisp ivory base without any significant discoloration or crazing.
Dimensions: 26.5 cm diameter 13.5cm height
In good condition despite its great age with no large chips - a 4cm 'Y' shaped hairline crack (mostly visible from the underside), and some tiny 'flea bite' chips of under 1mm diameter to the outer rim. Otherwise, light signs of use including light scratches, light crazing, etc. As with any transferware item, you may see small areas of transfer smudging, small pattern gaps and spots - these are part of the vintage charm of the item, arising from the more hand-made processes of the time, and should not be regarded as faults. Overall, this cake stand presents beautifully, remains very usable and will serve and display well for years to come.
