A beautiful and rare antique French salad bowl / deep dish, by Creil et Montereau, c 1875-1890. A lovely Japanese-inspired design from the height of the Aesthetic Movement, this piece is a type of Willow pattern variation features a mix of iconography including a 'Poonah' style vase of peonies and willow branches and bridges in a hybrid of popular patterns of the time. Lovely Japanese floral arrangements in an exquisitely detailed tone-on-tone sepia brown transferware on a crisp white base. Lovely all year but perfect for a fall table!
This beautifully detailed and rare antique French ironstone (faience) dish features a delicately aged white ground and highly detailed transfer printed design of floral and foliate vignettes - a fabulous exemplar of French fascination with the Orient. A lovely piece of very romantic and intricate antique faience, the transferware work is absolutely exquisite displaying a technical mastery that attests to the skillful artisans at the faiencerie of Creil et Montereau, who won the Médaille d’or and other honors at the 19th century Paris exhibitions.
Marked on the base 'Terre de Fer' (literally 'Iron Earth', the French term for earthenware or ironstone) but no maker's mark. However, this pattern is identical to other examples produced by Creil et Monterau and all signs point to it being by that renowned faiencerie.
In excellent antique condition - no chips or cracks, light signs of use and age. Lovely piece for display or use. Age-appropriate crazing, and signs of use / wear commensurate with age (light scratches, wear to the edges, etc). See photos for condition and feel free to ask any questions.
