A beautiful and rare antique French dinner plate in navy blue and white by Creil et Montereau, c 1845-1876. A lovely Chinoiserie inspired design, this piece is a classic Willow pattern with absolutely exquisite detailing in the border patterns and the main tableau. Crisp and clear prints, incredibly intricate in an exquisitely detailed tone-on-tone blue transferware on a crisp white base.
Two examples are available, each in differing condition. Price is for one piece. (Please note that if you would like to have both examples, these can ship together for the same price as one piece - please ask to adjust shipping before you buy, or I can refund you after your purchase :)
This beautifully detailed and rare antique French ironstone (faience) dish features a delicately aged white ground and highly detailed transfer printed design of floral and foliate vignettes - a fabulous exemplar of French fascination with the Orient. A lovely piece of very romantic and intricate antique faience, the transferware work is absolutely exquisite displaying a technical mastery that attests to the skillful artisans at the faiencerie of Creil et Montereau, who won the Médaille d'or and other honors at the 19th century Paris exhibitions.
Marked on the base as follows:
"Porcelaine Opaque Creil et Montereau - Medailles d'or 1834-39 et 44 - Lebeuf Milliet & Cie"
(The mark is undated but must fall between 1845 (after the last medal win noted in the backstamp) and the name change to remove Lebeuf Milliet et Cie which occurred in 1876.)
Condition varies between examples as follows:
Plate 1 - In very good antique condition with no chips or cracks, light patination from use and wear - no chips or cracks, no deep scratches but with signs of use and age around the outer rim. Glazes remain bright and clear. Lovely piece for display or use.
Plate 2 - As above but with a large shallow chip from the rim at the top left side of the plate. Also a few smaller loses to the outer rim at the bottom right. A large linear manufacturing fault to the glaze on the reverse of the plate.
Please see photos for condition.
23.2cm (9") diameter x 3.7cm (1.2") high.
A stunning French antique design piece to treasure!
Please feel free to ask any questions :) I am happy to combine shipping!
