Antique French Clairefontaine Compotier - Cake Stand, Shabby Blue Transferware, Ironstone c1886

A lovely-but-shabby French antique cake stand / compotier in blue and white transferware ironstone with a lovely tea-stained patina. Antique style in this bold deep navy-blue piece, with authentic signs of age, including three visible chips to the plate rim. From the renowned faienceries of Clairefontaine, with "Terre de Fer" stamp (Ironstone) on its base, dating the piece to the late 19th Century.

A very romantic deep blue design showing birds, butterflies and leaves above and underneath the plate and a pretty freize on the rims, it is a beautiful shabby piece made in earthenware with a creamy white paste and navy-blue transferware. A perfect French country design, in a classic blue and white colourway.

Prettily showing the passing of all its 120 + years of age, this piece is in shabby antique condition with a heavy tea stain patina and many signs of use and wear. Three significant chips at the outer plate rim. Otherwise, small areas of glaze loss, all over scratches and crazing of the glaze, some patchy discoloration, and a very 'tea-stained' appearance. No cracks. Please ensure you thoroughly check all photos for condition as the condition will not suit everyone - though lovers of aged and shabby objects will love this one!

Perfect for the plate rack or sideboard, this remains a beautiful piece of classic French faience to display and enjoy for lovers of shabby objects!
