A rare and elegant French Art Nouveau red and green transferware dinner service including full place settings for 8, including 8 dinner plates, 8 soup plates and 8 side plates, plus a set of various serving dishes. In very good antique condition, this is lovely celebration china, ideal for a wedding or a glamorous festive table - just in time for Christmas!
Priced and sold as the full set of 31 pieces. (Additional pieces of serve ware in the same pattern are available - a very large round platter and a large fruit stand - please inquire for details.)
Featuring a gorgeous intricate floral and foliate design, with a repeating border of leaves, flowers and early Art Nouveau vining forms in beautifully soft dusky red and forest green. This set is a rare design capturing the romance of the Parisian Belle Epoque with an emerging Art Nouveau design, very elegant and timeless to fit with any décor. It is stamped for KG Keller and Guerin, de la faiencerie de Luneville, decor 'Roland'
Numerous plates to serve a significant dinner party, accompanied by classically French matching set of serve ware including a lovely compotier (fruit stand) and dessert service pieces. Excellent color retaining a crisp cream-white base without significant discoloration. Three of the items do have damage / age-related faults, and have been included free of charge. All pieces, even those damaged, remain usable. More photos are available -I will be very happy to send you more images so you can get to know this lovely set, please just ask!
The set includes the following items. Unless stated all pieces are in 'very good' to 'excellent' antique condition. There are some signs of their considerable age and busy life in the form of small 'fleabite' glaze losses at the rim, scratches, general light crazing and small areas of tea-stain patina on some pieces.
Itemized inventory. Set of 31 pcs, Dimensions and specific notes as follows:
8 Flat dinner plates (24cm diameter 2.5cm height) 7 in very good condition, one damaged with a 1cm diameter chip to the underside of the rim (included free of charge)
8 soup plates (24cm diameter 3.8 cm height) 7 in very good condition, 1 with a shallow 1cm diameter chip to the underside of the rim
8 Side plates (22cm diameter 2.5 cm height) all in excellent condition
2 footed platters / low cake stands (24.5cm x 4cm height) in excellent condition
1 Large round platter (32cm diameter 3.5cm height) in excellent condition
1 Large round deep platter (31.75cm diameter 4.5cm height) in excellent condition
1 Tall footed cake stand / 'compotier' (24.5cm x 13.5cm height) in excellent condition
1 Ravier ( 24.8cm x 16cm 3cm Height) in excellent condition
1 Sauce dish / gravy Boat (24.5cm x 15.5cm at base, (18cm x 12cm) in satisfactory condition with small areas of discoloration and a chip to the underside of the foot rim, not visible on display.
(Note: I also have a pair of tureens (soupieres) in the same pattern but in shabby condition - the listing is available to view here: https://brocanteusevintage.etsy.com/listing/1620971355/pair-shabby-french-antique-soup-tureens )
Overall, this set has been lightly used and remains in very good condition despite its great age. Because this is a functional item, you may expect to see signs of use including light scratches, a few small areas of glaze loss, a few small areas of discoloration, etc. Also it is manufactured to different standards than today and you may see areas of transfer smudging, glaze spots, bubbles, or inclusions under the glaze - these are part of the vintage charm of the item, a sign of the more 'hand made' processes of the time, and should in no way be regarded as faults. Overall, this set has a wealth of pieces that remain in truly lovely condition for an age of 100+ years - the set remains very usable and will display well for years to come.
A beautiful way to add some authentic French antique charm to your life!
Feel free to ask any questions or to request more photos :) There are many pieces here, I would welcome the opportunity to show you more about this fabulous French treasure!
