An small elegant dinner service in a French antique transferware pattern in classic blue and white. Featuring 25 pieces in a stunning pattern produced for one of the leading Parisian department stores in the 19th Century. With place settings for a dinner party of 10 people, with soup and dinner plates, plus a soupiere, a compotier and a ravier.
A lovely French service in an Aesthetic movemen design of stylized flowers and foliage, bees, butterflies and dragonflies in a classic teal blue and white colorway on a cream ground, unstamped for a maker but clearly produced by one of the renowned faienceries of France. c1900. Marked with Terre de Fer, Mon Chanut, E Primard Street, Paris
This smaller set will be ideal if kitchen space is an issue - you can entertain in style, without devoting a huge area for the storage of a large dinner set!
CONDITION -
Overall, this set remains in very good to excellent condition with a gentle patina of age. Light crazing to many pieces, light scratches, a few traces of knife marks on the meat platters, a few very small areas of glaze loss, a few small areas of discoloration, etc. Also, it is manufactured using more 'handmade' processes than today, and you may see areas of glaze smudging, glaze spots, bubbles under the glaze as is normal for transferware and part of the vintage charm of the items. With the exception of a few minor flaws (see pictures!) everything is in excellent condition and remarkably well preserved for its age of 150+ years - all pieces in the service remain usable and will display well for years to come.
The set includes:
- 10 x dinner plates (22.5 cm diameter height 3.5 cm). All in excellent condition, three different designs of butterflies, dragonflies or bees.
- 10 x side plates (20.5 cm diameter height 2.5 cm). All in excellent condition, three different designs of butterflies, dragonflies or bees.
- 1 x small oval 'ravier' serving dishes (24.5cm x 13cm x H4cm) smal chip to rim underside, the size of an orange seed
- 1 x Large Soupiere with lid (W33.5cm x Diam 22.5cm x H 23cm) very good condition, light patina, 2 cm very fine hairline on rim lid
1 x Large tall footed compotier (Diam 24.7cm x H 11cm)
1 x Tall footed compotier (Diam 21.5cm x H 10.5cm) A hairline crack on the foot, spans half the circumference of the foot, no movement and the piece is stable
1 x Cake stand (Diam 21.5cm x H 5cm)
Overall a great set to use, display and enjoy - an exquisite set to treasure for a lifetime and beautiful way to add some authentic French antique charm to your life!
