A lovely antique French footed serving dish with attached base in cornflower blue transferware design of birds, nests and flowers. The style of this piece dates it to the latter part of the 19th century during the period of the Aesthetic Movement.c1880-1900 unmarked for a maker but possibly from Pexonne France. Stamped for L. Chanut Terre de Fer. In shabby condition
Featuring beautifully molded handles in the form of an acanthus leaf scroll. A tranquil country-style pattern in a summer harvest theme with vignettes of birds nesting and in flight. This is an incredibly sweet pattern for a perfect French country or cottage décor piece with a touch of Parisian formality. Elegant rounded form and generous foot plate dish is a lovely complement to the intricate decoration, rendered in glorious cornflower blue transferware, accented by washes in a lighter blue-grey tone, on a crisp white paste.
Showing all the signs of the passage of 120 years, this piece has been well-loved and is perfect for lovers of shabby décor. It has areas of damage including 3 significant chips from the rim of the foot and the rim of the bowl, and a long chip to the foot of its base. There are 2 hairline cracks to each side of the bowl, non penetrating but with discoloration. The inside surface of the bowl also has areas of discoloration. Despite the damage, this piece possesses a beautiful patina of age which is part of the charm of this type of vintage item. Though lovers of shabby china will adore this piece, please ensure you fully familiarize yourself with the photos before purchasing as the condition will not suit everyone.
